Ambergris Caye Belize Rated Number Three As One of the World’s Top Retirement Havens

by Admin on January 9, 2013

My business partner in Belize forwarded this article to me and I wanted to share it with my blog followers. Any third party source that gives major props to Belize as a retirement haven, I’m definitely going to share. Kathleen Peddicord of Live and Invest Overseas is a blogger for the online newspaper Huffington Post. She came up with a Top Ten List of the World’s Top Retirement Havens. Number 3 on the list was Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Kathleen puts it best….Belize is “warm and welcoming, independent and private.” On the financial side of retirement she states…”foreign residents pay no tax in Belize on non-Belize income.”
Here is the full article on Ambergris Caye being rated a top retirement haven.
However, I disagree with her assessment of the medical care. From personal experience, back in the Summer of 2010, I had to get a cyst removed at a hospital in Belize City and it only cost me $140. My business partner has lived with his wife in Belize for nine years and his fully covered insurance cost only $1200 a year. The main hospitals are in Belize City and there are many clinics throughout the country. A lot of the doctors are Cuban trained. Cuba has some of the best medical training in the world. Lastly, Belize just had their first open heart surgery performed in the country. I wrote about it in a previous blog post. You’ll be fine down there:)
